New BFF alert. Denzel Washington and Tony Scott will be getting back into the spoon position for the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3.
Denzel Teaming with Scott for The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3
Washington will take on the role of Zachary "Z" Garber, which was played by Walter Matthau in the original 1974 Joseph Sargent-helmed film. The story, based on a novel by John Godey, will take place in contemporary New York and is set in motion when four hijackers take over a subway train and hold the passengers for ransom.
Not feeling any pressure from the upcoming strike, Columbia Pictures is looking to get the project into production by the first quarter of 2008.
This will actually be the third try at The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3, which also spawned a 1998 TV movie starring Edward James Olmos.
Denzel Washington and Tony Scott have worked together on projects including Deja Vu and the very-underrated Crimson Tide.
Denzel recently wrapped production on The Great Debaters while Scott's last moment behind the camera featured Keira Knightley showing nipple in Domino. The film sucked, but I got to love the effort.
