Though Michael Bay has been farting around the sequel to Transformers, Paramount has other plans. If Paramount has their way, we could see Transformers 2 in theaters by summer of 2009.
Transformers 2 a Summer Tentpole... Maybe
BoxOfficeMojo has listed Transformers 2 for a June 26th, 2009 release. If this was the case, that would mean that Paramount is hoping to race the film's production against the upcoming trifecta strike.
Possible? I have no idea, but, like the Superman franchise, it has been shown that once the effects section is complete, it is not hard to create a sequel. Throw in a new wireframe for new characters and, bam, you got something.
Well, I don't know if it is that easy, but one has to wonder if it is entirely possible for Paramount to pull off a tentpole sequel in six months or less.

Hopefully Paramount or the recently-fickle Michael Bay will have an official announcement shortly.
