The Golden Compass
One of the last things New Line Cinema was willing to show in their early previews of The Golden Compass were the daemons. One of the biggest drawbacks budget-wise to The Golden Compass is the fact that most the characters in the books have a daemon, an animal companion that works like one's conscience or, should I say, soul.
Meet the Daemons
Confused? Well, New Line thought you might be, and have provided a new featurette for The Golden Compass that takes a closer look at daemons, how tough they were to make, and the importance to the story.
The featurette gives tons of new clips from The Golden Compass while switching back to interviews with cast, crew and director Chris Weitz. As a relief to fans of the books, Weitz seems to have a grasp on the idea of daemons, the importance with age and their ability to take separate forms. Daniel Craig backs the claim by explaining his character's daemon, a snow leopard.
Freddie Highmore seems a little more confused on what a daemon really is, so maybe he was told to keep quite or he hadn't read the books.
