DreamWorks Pictures has picked up Catherine Keener to co-star in their upcoming music pic, The Soloist.
Catherine Keener for The Soloist
Keener will join Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. in a story that centers on Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless musician with schizophrenia who dreams of playing at L.A.’s Disney Hall. The screenplay, by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), is based on a 2005 series of articles by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez.
Downey Jr. will play Lopez, who found Ayers (Foxx) on the streets of downtown Los Angeles. Keener will portray Lopez’s wife.
Atonement helmer Joe Wright will direct.
Lopez's article, From Skid Row to Disney Hall, is also being used for an upcoming book from Putnam.
Keener made a small appearance in Into the Wild and has recently wrapped Hamlet 2, Synecdoche, New York, and Where the Wild Things Are.
The Soloist is expected to enter production this January.
