Macbeth
Something is not entirely rotten in the state of Denmark.
Call me crazy but I just don’t think Shakespeare should be tampered with. I liked the action. I liked the modern feel of it but submachine guns and gangsters talking over for the Lord of Cawdor…I just don’t know.
DVD Review: Macbeth
The problem I have with this movie is that young viewers will watch it probably having no idea of the original Macbeth and think that this is actually an original idea. But then again, maybe that’s why the movie works. It’s just that, a movie, and it’s here to entertain and on that note, I can’t disagree with the result. I was entertained. I found myself wondering how they were going to depict certain scenes from the original work, so that alone kept me watching.
Geoffrey Wright directs the flick which at times border on soft core porn. I mean the witches pretty much have a threesome and the murders are at times, ruthless. With its all black undertone, the Old English is both comical and necessary all at once. Thank God that they did stick closely to the original dialogue, a feat which shouldn’t go unnoted.
Not much on the Special features at all unfortunately.
