The idea of Medellin on Entourage must have sparked some creativity in Hollywood. While we have encountered Pablo Escobar in films like Blow, the drug-traffic legend, if you can call him that, will be getting his own biopic and some talent to go with it.
Christian Bale, Javier Bardem for Killing Pablo
Yari Film Group is fast-tracking Killing Pablo, a biopic on Pablo Escobar that will star Javier Bardem and Christian Bale.
This 'fast-tracking' has been long overdue, as it has been in development for nearly five years.
Based on Mark Bowden's tome "Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw," Killing Pablo will follow Escobar's rise to power as the leader of the drug cartel in Medellin, Columbia. After years of terrorizing police and political leaders, Escobar was targeted in 1992 by a coalition of Colombian police and military, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the CIA; he was killed the following year.
Killing Pablo was originally set up with Paramount and DreamWorks co-financing and Yari and Gordon producing via their Stratus Films banner.
"This has been a passion project of mine for years, and it will be a tentpole for our company," said Yari. "I have been patient to get this done because I wanted the ideal director and cast. It was worth the wait."
Killing Pablo could begin shooting as early as June, just as long the upcoming SAG strike comes to a conclusion by that point.
