The Night Tourist
Looks like acquisitions come in pairs. Summit is taking at shot at Twilight and Universal Pictures is looking to get in early on the children's tome The Night Tourist, which the studio has acquired in a high six-figure deal.
Universal to Adapt The Night Tourist
Based on Katherine Marsh's young adult tome, published by Hyperion Children's only last month, The Night Tourist revolves around a ninth-grade classics prodigy who discovers Gotham's underworld with the help of a girl he meets at Grand Central Station. He discovers many secrets about his pal while searching for a glimpse of his late mother in this secret world.
You guessed it. The book, like most others being adapted nowadays, has some fantastical elements.
Chris Meledandri's new animation and family banner will develop the adaptation for the studio.
Though no writer has been found, Meledandri, Courtney Pledger and John Cohen are already onboard to produce.
Meledandri exited Fox earlier this year to set up Universal's toon unit. Though still building up the base of operations, the banner is expected to produce two to three animated and live-action films a year.
