Torn Apart
It’s not easy to tell the story of the Arab-Israeli conflict and get it right. It’s even harder to really try and explain the situation to most people. But something everyone can relate to is a love story and what a better backdrop for a gut wrenching love story than the Arab-Israeli conflict. This is what Torn Apart attempts and succeeds at.
DVD Review: Torn Apart
It is the definition of the forbidden fruit to those that could tell you for a Muslim and an Israeli Jew to end up together. But director Danny Fisher weaves a brilliant story not through special effects or obsessive violence but with a story that anyone can really relate to. Ben (Adrian Pasdar) and Laila’s (Cecilia Peck) relationship is a microcosm of the entire conflict and both actors play their parts remarkably. No matter what your knowledge of the situation in the Middle East nor your political views, this story will hit you deep, I promise you.
But remember, if you’re looking for a war flick sprinkled with a love story, you are in store for the wrong movie. This film is a love story and a damn good one, sprinkled in with some war.
The film is based on the novel, A Forbidden Love by Chayym Zeldis and will be out on DVD on Oct 2, 2007.
