Thundercats
Warner Bros took their first step by picking up scribe Paul Sopocy to help get a live action Thundercats adaptation in the works. It's been an entire summer since we've heard anything new, but it looks like the studio has taken a big second step with Jerry O'Flaherty, who has been brought on to direct.
Live Action Thundercats Gets a Director
Every time we hear of a second-unit or a commercial director sitting directly behind the camera for a big feature film, we always have to doubt. There are some, however, that step up to the task -- see James McTeigue (V for Vendetta).
Jerry O'Flaherty hasn't even hit second-unit yet. The video game veteran has instead made a career out of working as an art director on bestselling games such as Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3 and Command and Conquer. No commercials, no second-unit, video games.
"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into," O'Flaherty said. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the video game experience."
O'Flaherty will now work with screenwriter Paul Sopocy on the script.
The Thundercats franchise began in 1983 and spawned several animated series, with the most recent airing on Cartoon Network, a toy line produced by LJN and comicbooks published by Marvel and DC imprints. Warner Bros. has owned the rights to the animated series since acquiring Telepictures Corp. in 1989.
