A villain (early) this morning and now a captain just in time for lunch. Eric Bana might find himself going head to head with Chris Pine, who is currently in negotiations to play Captain er, sorry, James T. Kirk in Star Trek.
Chris Pine Captain Kirk?
Paramount Pictures is currently talking to Chris Pine to play Captain Kirk, a role that will put him up against the film's villain Nero (Bana). It is unknown whether Bana would play a human or a member of an alien race, like a Klingon. To be honest, we are not even sure Bana knows what he will end up as. Considering how top secret the Star Trek is, actors are being cast without knowing full details on the role they will be performing.
Abrams used a similar strategy when casting Cloverfield, a film that still remains titleless and, for the most part, storyless.
Crew already warped aboard the Starship Enterprise include Anton Yelchin as the young Chekov, the Russian-born navigator; Zachary Quinto as the young Spock; and Zoe Saldana as the young Uhura, the communications officer.
Though Pine seems to be at the top of the list as Kirk, Paramount isn't taking any chances -- expect to hear some other Kirk suggestions if Pine's negotiations begin to fall through.
Recognize Pine? Besides a role in Lohan's Just My Luck, Pine played one of the three neo-Nazi's in Smokin' Aces.
Star Trek will warp into theaters Christmas Day, 2008.
