Exactly what you need to survive in the video-sharing market. Just when this corner of the internet seemed flooded, Will Ferrell proved that you can make any comedy site work... As long as there is big name talent working behind (and in front of) the curtains. FunnyorDie, which kicked off its career with a sketch involving Ferrell, has found some more talent.
Apatow Joins FunnyorDie
This partnership isn't too much of a surprise. If my memory serves me right -- which it normally doesn't -- Apatow already had a couple hits on FunnyorDie including one featuring a staged argument between Apatow and Michael Cera.
FunnyorDie was launched by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay in April and has attracted more than 3.6 million unique visitors. Its first hit, The Landlord, proved that internet audiences could fall in love with a foul-mouthed baby. The video has since been viewed more than 47 million times.
Ferrell and McKay announced their new partnership with Apatow today.
The trio have become increasingly close, especially since all three are currently working on Step Brothers, a Ferrell vehicle that McKay is helming and Apatow is producing for Sony.
"Adam and Will and myself have been friends for many years, and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create a situation where the friendship could not survive," Apatow said.
One big advantage with the addition of Apatow is that he means even more talent will become involved with FunnyorDie. Every actor who stands in front of Apatow's camera has a chance of being convinced to pull off a comedic short for the sake of internet audiences.
