The House Without a Christmas Tree
Where was this movie when I was growing up??? No, I am not saying that I minded watching 238 reruns of A Christmas Story but The House Without a Christmas Tree would have been a nice change of pace from time to time.
DVD Review: The House Without a Christmas Tree
The film was made in 1973 (takes place in 1946) and when you watch it you notice that back in 1973 you could have a few things in your films that may not fly today such as having the grandfather smoke like a chimney, for one. But its story is heartwarming. Addie (Lisa Lucas) is 10-years old and wants a Christmas Tree at Christmas but her dad James (Jason Robards) is still mourning the loss of his wife and doesn’t want to celebrate Christmas. It takes his mom (Addie’s grandmother) to play the peacemaker in this great holiday story.
The film was shot on videotape so it doesn’t have the traditional ‘film’ feel to it. It almost looks low budget, but low budget to the point that it seems MORE real. Just go see it. It’s only 1:15 long.
The House Without a Christmas Tree is out on DVD now.
