Talk about a last minute substitution. Only a day before scheduled shooting, Ryan Gosling has been replaced by Mark Wahlberg for The Lovely Bones.
Mark Wahlberg for The Lovely Bones
The Lovely Bones is the adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel set to be directed by Peter Jackson.
Gosling put on twenty pounds and grew out an impressive face sweater for the gig, but ended up exiting the production due to creative differences. Though I can't imagine Wahlberg being nearly as prepped for the part as Gosling was, at least he was available.
Wahlberg will play Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a young girl.
After reading the script, Wahlberg quickly committed Sunday. He joins Rachel Weisz as a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches over her family and her killer from heaven. Jackson wrote the script with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
The Lovely Bones begins filming today in Pennsylvania. Wahlberg is already close by, as he just wrapped Shyamalan's The Happening for Fox in the same area. Though the film is Wahlberg's first time working under Jackson, the two have met before for a small appearance by Jackson on HBO's Entourage -- which Wahlberg produces.
