Though Michael Dougherty has surfaced a few times to discuss the sequel to Superman
Returns, both he and Dan Harris have announced that they would not be coming back to write the sequel.

Warner Bros. has got to be working overtime right now. Not only are they running around trying to cast Justice League, but now they are hoping to pick up some new scribes for the Superman sequel.
Rumors suggest that the sequel will be an entirely new take on Superman, as if Superman Returns never happened. Why? Two things really:
1. Superman's son will likely complicate things.
2. For an expensive tentpole, the film only earned $400 million worldwide.
The let's-try-again strategy isn't entirely new, as Universal is doing the same thing with The Incredible Hulk.
The project still has Bryan Singer, who continues to promise action with his Wrath of Khan analogy.
Dougherty and Harris are pursuing more directing gigs.
