Transformers
Paramount has yet another reason to get a Transformers sequel quickly into production. Though the film's reviews were mixed, there was nothing that could stop its DVD sales. In it's first week alone, Transformers sold more than 8.3 million copies.
Transformers Sells DVDs
With numbers like this, Paramount is already toting that Transformers is the fastest selling DVD of the year and, since the year is about to close out, it looks like it will remain the record-holder of 2007.
Happy Feet is/was this year's top seller to date, having sold around 10 million discs since its DVD release on March 27th. 10 million copies over the course of months? Ha! Transformers should obliterate this record by next week.
While Michael Bay had a bit of a drunken breakdown after Paramount announced Transformers was HD DVD exclusive, the director can't deny that the film is performing incredibly well on the medium. Transformers sold more than 190,000 HD DVDs -- one of the best hi-def bows to date.
When Paramount announced that they'd go HD DVD exclusive -- a decision I love since I have the Xbox 360 attachment -- Warner Bros. was left as the only studio still backing both hi-def formats.
To help Transformers get to 8.3 million copies the first week, the title sold a whopping 4.5 million the first day.
