Got quite a few discussions, updates and maybes coming your way for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Rushing X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Like every other studio trying to beat the strike, Fox now finds itself in turbo mode for Wolverine. The good people at Filmonic have posted a great collection of updates around the project including information on the script in progress and a possible casting update.

The first update comes as bad news. Though a script already existed by David Benioff, Hitman writer Skip Woods has been brought on to re-write it. It is unknown why Fox felt this was necessary. Did the script blow? Something to do with the oncoming strike? Just wanted to make it better? What? Though one can only guess, it has been confirmed that the script is being rushed -- which never sounds good.

Just last week, 20th Century Fox issued an announcement that the studio was laying claim to May 1, 2009, as the release date for its big-budget sci-fi spinoff “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” starring Hugh Jackman. This was just days after it issued an urgent SOS to the major agencies looking for a quick rewrite person.

While the script does look problematic, Fox has enough information to begin casting. According to News.Com, a young Wolverine has already been found and cast.

Melbourne’s Kodi Smit-McPhee has signed up to play a young version of Jackman’s claw-wielding mutant alter ego in the up-coming action thriller Wolverine. The 11-year-old, who is up against his Romulus, My Father co-star Eric Bana for best lead actor at this year’s AFI Awards, will begin filming at Fox Studios in December.

“I am very excited about it. I like how their claws come out,” he said yesterday.

Unless the script edits lead to delays, we also now know Wolverine's production schedule.

Dates: Prep from October 8th; Shooting 10th Dec 2007 - 18th Janurary 2008
(2 week break over Christmas 21st Dec 2007 - 7th January 2008)

So how long does that give Skip to have a completed draft? A month at most?
