Underworld
I don't know what the bigger seller is for Underworld, the semi-interesting story or Kate Beckinsale kicking ass with shiny blue eyes and tight black leather. I'm going to go with the latter.
Which makes me thing Screen Gems might be nuts. The studio has greenlit a prequel, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans, and, as far as I can tell, it is lacking in some Beckinsale.
Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans
Patrick Tatopoulos, who had the responsibility of creature development for the first two films, has been upgraded to director for this third installment with Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra already onboard to star.
Rise of the Lycans traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Danny McBride penned the screenplay.
"For the first time we will experience the Underworld universe through the eyes of the Lycans," Wiseman said. "Patrick has always played such an essential part in helping to create Underworld from the start. ... So I feel it is both exciting and fitting that (he) now takes the helm."
Though I can only hope that there will be other hot femalia taking Beckinsale's place for Lycans, at least the film is starting off with a strong
cast. Michael Sheen's popularity has been soaring since his first appearance in the Underworld franchise and who doesn't love Bill Nighy?
