Kenneth the NBC Page is one of the scene-stealing characters on 30 Rock. Since he never has to carry an entire storyline, he just gets to have the good lines. Jack McBrayer plays Kenneth with eternal optimism and hope.
Jack McBrayer Optimistic for 30 Rock
"I always have a good sub-story line," said McBrayer. "I’m definitely not going to be dominating any of the shows anytime soon, which is fine by me. A little bit goes a long way."
Hollywood is a hard place to stay hopeful, especially with the exaggerations of 30 Rock's characters. Kenneth may have a crisis one of these days. "Where he just snaps? Well, I don’t know. We came pretty close. We shot an episode where actually Jane[Krakowski] and I made out a little bit, our characters, not the actors. I think that really did shatter some illusions for Kenneth about what show business is all about. But yeah, in terms of like crawling into a bell tower or anything, I don’t think that script has been written quite yet."
Making out with The Girlie Show's star Jenna might suggest that Kenneth is not gay, though that ambiguity is still out there. "Well, I don’t know. Plus Jane is definitely the instigator of that scene. Jenna kisses just about anyone and anything."
Kenneth may get a real love interest this year. "Sometimes the love interests that Kenneth gets are so out there that I don’t even know. I do make out with Jane Krakowski. I don’t know if you’ve heard of that actress. But I read a quote from this summer where Tina said that she was hoping to get Florence Henderson on the show as a love interest for Kenneth. So I don’t know exactly what is going to be going on but I’ve got my little black book handy if they ever just need my advice on actors and cast."
Otherwise, McBrayer's only hopes for the show's second season are potential travel days. "Maybe you know how on some TV shows like the whole cast goes to Europe or something. So maybe we could all go to Hawaii for a few episodes. You know, when the Bradys went to Hawaii. Maybe we could do that too."
