Gerard Butler
Butler must have not been feeling the direction that Escape from New York, as he escaped from the entire project before production ever began.
Butler Exits Escape From New York
Butler joined the remake to play the title character Snake Plissken. Even we were thrilled with the news, but things this good just aren't meant to last. Thanks to some creative differences, Butler won't be escaping from anything.
Though production never began, there was enough disagreement between Butler and er, whoever to cause him to exit.
New Line doesn't seem that fazed by the sudden leave, as they have already brought in Jonathan Mostow to rewrite the script. Mostow also has an option to direct.
Even without Escape from New York, Butler can still tote a busy line-up. He just began production on Game for Lionsgate and can next be seen in P.S. I Love You opposite Hilary Swank, the Guy Ritchie-directed Rock N Rolla, and Fox-Walden's Nim's Island.
