Spider-Man 3
Brief update coming your way for the Spider-Man franchise. At the end of July Sam Raimi announced that he was looking for a new writer (or writers) for Spider-Man 4. It looked as if the project was going to be given an extended window of time to gestate, and we hadn't expected anything new until closer to the New Year. Since the third installment was inferior to the two before it, we didn't mind the wait.
But now the wait is over, and Sam Raimi has found his scribe.
Spider-Man 4 Gets James Vanderbilt
Entertainment Weekly reports that James Vanderbilt, the scribe behind David Fincher's thriller Zodiac, has been picked up by Columbia Pictures to write Spider-Man 4. Only a day before the expected WGA strike, one has to question Columbia's timing. Vanderbilt won't be allowed to write anything until the strike ends, but that doesn't mean he can't keep very-specific notes on what he wants to do.
Sam Raimi hasn't confirmed whether he will direct or not -- depends on the script -- but he plans to be involved in some creative position.
