DVD Review: Top Gun on HD DVD

What I can only assume to be the career-launching title for Tony Scott, Top Gun looks great in the HD format. The film did come out back in the mid-80's, so the high-def at times points out some of the trickier effects shots, but one can easily let all that go thanks to the film's overall improvement in both visuals and audio.

When it comes to extras, there is nothing special on the improved format. If you own a more recent copy of the Top Gun DVD, then it is likely that you already own the same features.

What you do get with Top Gun HD are strong visuals and a great reminder of the birth place where all of today's Michael Bays and Jerry Bruckheimers have come from. Sure, the film's campy, shows too much male skin and plays way too many music montages, but it is still a great ride.

Top Gun is out on HD DVD now.
