Fox Holiday Preview: Hitman

20th Century Fox has sent over their holiday preview beginning with Hitman. Though there are quite a few voices across the net pre-criticizing the film for everything from outlook (how do they know?) to Timothy Olyphant himself, we here at CanMag have been thrilled about the adaptation since go.

Hitman Preview

Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name.

Based on the popular first person shooter, Hitman could be one of the few video game adaptations that is actually worth seeing.

Why we like it
Timothy Olyphant. Say what you will, but Olyphant not only looks the part, but has yet to let me down in any role he has taken on. For a proper sampling of Olyphant, start by watching Go, then Girl Next Door, and then finish that off with the popular HBO series Deadwood. Nuff said.

The Professional. I have yet to see any extended scenes from the film, but the trailers give me a slight bit of deja vu back to the all-time great action film, The Professional. I can't explain why I feel this way, but there is just something about it. And that is a good thing.

Hard R. Unfortunately, this one is not a definite. If Fox decides to show some brass (for once), they will allow Xavier Gens' vision to come to fruition. Trying to delete the gore might just assassinate the film.

What Worries Us
It's a video game adaptation, and these typically do not convert well.

Censorship. As mentioned above, Fox might pull a fast one and edit down Xavier Gens' gory version. Guys, the game is gory -- it is about a Hitman after all -- so what did you expect? This, for the time being, is our greatest concern.

Hitman opens to theaters on November 21st.
