Like every other Pixar creation, Ratatouille should already have a space available to it on your DVD shelf or shelves -- depending on how avid the collector you are.
Not only does the film deliver an excellent story -- one of Pixar's best -- but some of the best CG animation we have seen to date. I had hoped to view Ratatouille in HD DVD, but Disney seems to favor the Blu-ray option.
Ratatouille on DVD
Fortunately for all of you owners of HD DVD players and upconverters, Ratatouille upconverts beautifully to 1080i. There were moments when I could have sworn to be watching the authentic, HD version.
As I mentioned in my review of the animation, Ratatouille is an excellent film and that alone should earn the DVD its place in your collection. If you need some more convincing, the DVD does come with some yummy bonus features.
Besides the usual deleted scenes, the Ratatouille DVD comes with a Brad Bird food discussion, the Pixar animated short Lifted -- the hilarious UFO story that played before the film in theaters -- and an all-new animated short Your Friend the Rat featuring Remy and his brother Emile.
I like Lifted better than Friend, but that could just be me.
It doesn't really matter though, as Ratatouille is the real dish here.
