Scott Derrickson, who freaked audiences out with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, will direct the remake. The Day the Earth Stood Still begins when aliens land on Earth carrying a message for all humans: Live in peace or be destroyed.
Connelly is set play Helen Benson, the same role Patricia Neal played back in 1951.
Fox plans to get the film into production this December up in Vancouver.
Connelly is currently working on the adaptation of man's worst enemy, He's Just Not That Into You. Once production wraps she will immediately slide over to Earth.
