What ever happened to Nicolas Cage? Though Cage was reported to star in The Wrestler back in October, he has left the project for unknown reasons. With the role now open, it took very little to fill it with Mickey Rourke.

Mickey Rourke has been picked up to star in The Wrestler, a film to be directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Rourke will play Randy "The Ram" Robinson, an over-the-hill grappler who returns to the ring for one last shot at glory.
Aronofsky wrote the script with Robert Siegel.
The Wrestler represents yet another film on Rourke's comeback trailer that kicked off with Sin City. The actor has since been seen in Man on Fire and Domino (to name a couple). He will next appear in Killshot and The Informers.
