Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
While making the rounds for Love in the Time of Cholera, director Mike Newell confirmed that he is indeed directing the Prince of Persia movie. The project is still new to him, but he got more and more excited as he revealed details.
Newell Talks Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
"I will talk about Prince of Persia but I've been making Prince of Persia for only the last five days," said Newell. "I don't have any great truths to say about it."
Actually, the details on the script he revealed will make fans happy. It has something to do with a priestess and Stonehenge and the fate of the world. And of course guys hanging onto ledges and pulling themselves back up. "Oh, we'll have all that. Certainly we will. Yes, yes, you bet. I haven't played the Prince of Persia game. I've got a minion who is, even as we speak, training on the Prince of Persia game and will show me tomorrow."
Under the Jerry Bruckheimer banner, one has hopes that he can do for video games what he did for theme park rides, but Newell would rather compare his film to Lost Horizon. "No, absolutely not like Pirates. Pirates is comedy. This isn't comedy. This will be romance. This will be a great love story set against danger and the fate of the world."
The script would have to be set in stone. With the writer's strike, any revisions would be forbidden, but Newell says they will find a way. "Oh no, no, no. This is a Jerry Bruckheimer film. Strikes are like the weather. If it's rain today, it'll be sunny tomorrow. That's how Bruckheimer is. You just wait. It'll all be fine."
