Angels & Demons
When the WGA strike still only looked like a possibility, Columbia Pictures was confident enough to announce that the adaptation of Angels & Demons would begin this February. With the writers strike now in full force, the studio has come to its senses by delaying Angels' production.
Angels & Demons Delayed
While we have been reading about damage done to multiple, high profile television series because of the writers strike, the studios have continued to back their claim that they are all stocked up for winter. One such production rushed pre-strike was Columbia Pictures' Angels & Demons.
One of the many tentpole projects that were announced to have dodged the bullet, it was announced over the weekend that both Angels & Demons and Pinkville production starts have been cancelled.
Akiva Goldsman has been feverishly working on the script for the past year, but was forced to drop his pen come November 1st. Even with all the work put in, the script is still far from polished.
The film's Christmas 2008 release has been pushed back to May 15, 2009.
"While the filmmakers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully realized production draft required of this ambitious project," a Sony rep said. "We do not expect any other film on our 2008 slate to be affected."
