SNL - The Complete Second Season
Saturday Night Live has just started coming out on DVD. It will be a while before they get to my years in the late '80s with Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey. Still, it comes in such a beautiful packaging, like an archival volume, I couldn't help but pop in the bonus features for the skits that were before my time.
DVD Review: Hudson Hawk Special Edition
The Mardi Gras Special is supposedly rare. I guess I've never seen in rerun on Comedy Central. It's a star studded affair with themed sketches, popular recurring characters and some political commentary of the time.
Audio of dress rehearsal sketches seem to be skits that were cut. A Farber skit with Sissy Spacek is a pretty clever fourth-wall breaking bit. Lily Tomlin's Susie & Shari sketch has a flub so that's fun.
Andy Kaufman's screen test is a trademark deadpan weird obscurity. Interestingly, in between takes, you hear him cooperating with the auditioners. Then he gets to do his own bizarre thing.
