Futurama - Bender's Big Score
David Herman does many random supporting voices on Futurama, so when the show came back for the DVD movie Bender’s Big Score, they asked Herman to play the main villain. Herman has done so many voices that he was hard pressed to single out his latest one, the Nudar.
David Herman Talks Futurama: Bender's Big Score
“I wish I could,” he said. “I do many, many characters. I've done about over 300 for Futurama and I don't rightly recall which one this one was. He was evil. He's no good. He's no good and he's naked which only amplified the no goodedness.”
The Nudars are a race of fleshy aliens who create intergalactic internet scams. The voice suits the body, but that may be just a coincidence. “Generally, these voices come about, I'm driving to work and I realize I have to come up with a voice. I don't know that I wracked my agile mind all that much. It's usually just like a very instinctive thing.”
Herman did not even see a sketch of the Nudar when he recorded the voice. “I don't think I have still. We might have done ADR for this. We may have looped this. I think I have seen a picture of him. We go first. We table read it and the animation comes later, so we don't know what we're going to end up looking like. Specifically for me, where I don’t do one of the fundamental stock characters, I don't know at all what I'm going to end up looking like.”
