About a week ago a rumor surfaced claiming that Christian Bale was up for a title role in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. According to the report, Bale would be replacing Nick Stahl as John Connor. Sounded too good to be true, right?
Christian Bale is John Connor
Not that I have anything against Nick Stahl, but having Christian Bale bring his talents to a project such as this is restores any faith I might had lost in the franchise.
Bale will play a John Connor who is now in his 30s. Thanks to the role, Bale will now have two consecutive summer tentpoles -- The Dark Knight summer 2008 and Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins summer 2009. Bale, who is known for his shocking ability to drop or gain one-third his own body weight between his roles, finally has something that will require the same physique.
Bale's first line of business, however, should be getting McG to change the film's extended title. McG has also been confirmed as director.
