Futurama is the story of Philip J. Fry living in the year 3000. However, supporting character Bender the robot usually steals the show. In fact, the first Futurama movie features Bender in the title, so voice actor John Di Maggio is happy.

Supporting Voices on Futurama and Bender's Big Score

“For the most part, it's a show that I think everybody is a part of,” said Di Maggio. “It's a real ensemble cast. My favorite character is Zoidberg for crying out loud. It's just funny. We just had such a good time doing the show. I'm just thrilled. It just so happens that it is Bender's Big Score.”

The Bender voice came right back to Di Maggio. “My reunion with Bender was just fantastic. It's just such a fun time. I'm just really excited that this is going on. It's just great to be back with the cast and the writers and everybody. It's just a lot of fun. It's just really right.”

Maurice LaMarche also returns as familiar voices like Morbo, and new ones like Shlump, a Nudar henchman. “There was a little reunion in my head,” said LeMarche. “We popped a cork and Morbo said, 'Normally I don't enjoy puny humans but this is really good champagne.' It was great. It was great to play everybody again. I had to create some new characters for the show. I play Shlump who's sort of the middle nudist internet alien scammer, the rounder one. I don't know how I get cast in these parts. Yeah, it was just great and it was great to get together with my fellow actors. This is the most incredible cast. Everybody is super talented and great folks.”

Fans may recognize Shlump as another character who LaMarche did not play. “Shlump is loosely based on a certain animated critic. 'Well, well, well.' He's in this one. Most of the regular cast for me is back, Kif. In the immortal words of Bender filtered through Kif, 'We're back, baby.'”

Tress MacNeille provides many supporting voices for both The Simpsons and Futurama. Bender’s Big Score gives her a selection of standout little clips.

“I'm not really featured in this first one,” said MacNeille. “In fact, I was a little hard pressed to find myself at all, but I'm there supporting all of my fellow actors in this with very small roles. I mean, I'm there. I'm Leila's mother, I'm Linda, I'm the second scientist on the screaming skull, I'm Tinny Tim. I'm some mutants, I'm some elves. I don't want to give it away so you can put the story all together and I tell you elves and sexy scientist. Oh, I'm also at the Nanotorium, the marine museum, I'm a scientist there.”

She would rather steal individual scenes than have her own main character. “It's the very best way to be. I'm Mom, did I tell you I'm mom. I'm also Mom, I rule the universe in the year 3000. 'Yes, I am Mom.'”
