Ellen Page on Juno

The raves keep coming for Juno. Beginning with Sundance, the film now has several Independent Spirit Awards nominations. That comes as exciting news to star Ellen Page.

Paging Juno
"It's very surreal," said Page. "It's funny because it feels like an enormous gift to be in the movie in the first place. This is all just like whoa, what's going on? It's on the beach. I'm excited about that. I hear it's really casual. Hopefully we'll just go lounge on the beach or something."

A mellow, sarcastic personality naturally, the Juno script matched Page's manner of speaking. "I feel like although it is unique and witty and all those things, to me when I read the script, it felt very fluid and rhythmic and organic. Although I didn't speak the exact same way as Juno when I was 16, I definitely had my own language with my friends which was different from the way I communicated with my parents. So it felt right."

Page admits she was afraid of playing the title character at first, but she got over it. "I think it all worked out. I don’t want that to sound dramatic. I wasn't like having night sweats but I think it happens about most films. I get really excited about shooting a film and then I get really scared because I think I've forgotten how to act and things. But when you start working with other people, it all just comes together and I was really lucky. I worked with really amazing people."

Well, not everything went smoothly. "I almost crashed the Previa. There was an AD in the back and all the seats were folded down. It was the inside of a van that you don't see. He was giving us cues and he wasn't tied down. I don't know what I did. Something went wrong and he went flying."

Juno opens to theaters on December 5th.
