Jeffrey Dean Morgan on P.S. I Love You

It would be hard to get over the dreamy Gerard Butler, but when he does, what's a girl to do? Denny from Grey's Anatomy isn't a bad rebound fling. When a postmortem letter from her husband (Butler) sends Holly (Hilary Swank) to Ireland, she has a new romance with William (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Already, women in the audience are crying, "Too soon!"
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Catches the Rebound
"I guess I can see that but I always saw him as, I think he genuinely kind of fell for Hilary’s character and by the time they found out who each other were, it was a little late in the game," Morgan defended. "I think they’d already fallen in bed. And then you kind of figure out that Gerry sent her on this journey and I like to think that when he sent her to Ireland, it was to meet me so I think it was kind of destined, and not swarmy at all."
The plot thickens though. William was in Butler's character's old band, so shouldn't he know who his wife was? "Look, it’s a movie, man. He just thought she was a cute American girl. I mean, when he found out, it was post-coital when he found out who she was. He says, ‘Oh god, you’re Gerry’s girl,’ and then by then it’s too late. They’ve already fallen for each other. That’s my way of thinking. That’s how I justified it. "
P.S. I Love You
The Denny thing already makes Morgan a dreamboat to most women. Now add musician to his hunky resume. "I have not a musical bone in my body. It was the first time I’d even held a guitar. Certainly my singing voice, other than me in the shower – I think it’s spectacular – I don’t know that anyone else would particularly like it. But getting the opportunity to do it was great. We got a week’s worth of lessons from Nancy Wilson which was one of the coolest things that could have ever happened, especially for me. I’m from Seattle and always had a huge crush on Nancy as a kid. When she opened up her door I think I turned like crimson. I was like, ‘Oh my god, it’s my childhood crush!’ So it was a hell of an opportunity. I still have my guitar from the movie and at some point I’d actually like to learn more, because really I learned how to play one song, the song that I play."
Singing with an Irish accent was no picnic either. "The dialect was a whole other thing. Other than like a leprechaun on a Lucky Charms commercial, I didn’t know where to begin. So I hired a dialect coach for like an hour, thinking, ‘Oh god, this isn’t going to work at all, but there’s always that role of Daniel. I’ll get that one.’ And then they gave it to me. They actually said, ‘Oh, it’s pretty good.’ I was still stunned and amazed. And then when we got to Ireland, both Gerry and I had to work endlessly with dialect coaches and try and figure out what part of the country because you drive a mile down the road in Ireland and the dialect changes. Trying to get on the same page with Gerry was just a nightmare in itself. To have the same dialect, because we obviously grew up together, was a challenge. But I think we worked it out."
