Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Before I begin this piece I might as well do a salute to John Hurt. The guy is incredible, and sadly only a small percentage of the younger moviegoing populartion actually knows who he is. While I use the 'totalitarian dictator in V for Vendetta' as my quickest example, Hurt pops up more often than you think. Frightening in some roles, kind in others, this guy is a giant, invisible chunk of Hollywood. If you think you've never seen him, go back and watch Hellboy, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, or, always a classic, Alien. Hurt's filmography is huge and dates all the way back to the '60s.
Always a popular contribution to films, Paramount was able to convince Hurt to join
Indiana
Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and, though he has swore to secrecy, the actor has popped up to discuss the film.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with John Hurt
Premiere has recently caught up with John Hurt to discuss Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Though Hurt couldn't detail anything from the plot, he was willing to smirk when asked about what role he'd be playing.
Did they show you the entire script?
I said, "I can't do it without seeing a script." They wanted everybody to do it without seeing a script because Steven — you know, "God" — was doing it. And I said, "Well, I need to have a little bit of previous knowledge even if God is doing it." So they sent a courier over with the script from Los Angeles, gave it to me at three o'clock in the afternoon in London, collected it again at eight o'clock in the evening, and he returned the next day to Los Angeles. So that was an expensive read.
A recent report pegs you as Abner Ravenwood, the father of Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood and Indy's mentor. The man Marion also tells Indy is dead in Raiders of the Lost Ark…
[A big grin spreads across Hurt's face] Hmmmm….
